RedRover, RedRover, we call Mel over.

After completing the online training this week, I spent my Sunday in a stuffy classroom completing the second part of the RedRover Responders volunteer course. In case you don't know who or what RedRover is, allow me to explain.

RedRover is a non-profit, charitable organization that assists various animal organizations like the HSUS, ASPCA, etc with emergency sheltering and disaster relief services. The HSUS will call upon RedRover to deploy and volunteers will set up and operate temporary emergency shelters for animals displaced by natural disasters and other crises, such as seizures of puppy mills and hoarding cases.

RedRover was one of the first animal rescue groups there when the Paws R Us pups were freed from their hell, and for anyone who kept a close eye on the story, you likely saw the RedRover folks in their bright red tshirts working day and night to care for the 500+ dogs. Dogs like Bogey and Nanny McPhee.

RedRover does amaaaazing work, so when they decided to hold a workshop in Ottawa for the first time ever, I jumped at the chance. After all is said and done, I'm delighted to say that I am now a RedRover Responder -- my certificate, photo ID tag, and tshirt are on their way. I look forward to my first deployment -- hopefully it will involve a puppy mill being shut down.

And hopefully I took a good photo for the ID tag.

Wow Mel that is so exciting. I have never heard of Red Rover before, but hopefully you can share some of your adventures with us saving the animals.

  2. CONGRATULATIONS !!!!  I've been following Red Rover for a few years and think they are just an amazing  organization.  They actually have a site you can register to get regular e-mails.  Again congratulations and thanks to you people I have a Bogey :) Or as I like to call him my "little brick" or "shoe box with legs"; he's just so square and solid, yeh like a brick!

  3. Oh my gosh! Good for you. How I wish I could join RedRover, too.

Mel, this is truly great news. We should celebrate. I can't wait to hear your adventures with them someday.

  4. Wish they'd finally come towards the GTA! That being said I work full-time and I don't have a car, so my ability to deploy is pretty much non-existent. And I guess not being needed in the GTA (yet) is a good thing... :)

  5. Congratulations, Mel!
As sad as it may be that this organization is at all necessary, it is a good thing that it does exist, and I can imagine how ready you are to start a Red Rover rescue! (Somehow I just had an image of you going to the bat-cave and doing the batman thing, changing into your Red Rover outfit   :D  ) Can't wait to hear about your adventures!

  8. That is SOOOOOOOOOOOO amazing! What wonderful work - not that people treat dogs in such a fashion but to get to be part of helping them and to make a true difference. Congrats!
